Foam-based fire extinguishers are the best bet to address the fire risk arising out of flammable liquids such as diesel and other heavy fuel oils which are always abundantly present aboard ships, boats, and other sea vessels. Foam-based extinguishers kill fires on flammable liquids by creating a blanketing effect on the surface of the fuel by cutting off oxygen. Basic science proves fire needs oxygen to grow.
